Employee Benefits

I offer a complete line of employee benefit products for groups starting as small as two people. Insurance companies and health plans I represent include Blue Shield of California, Aetna, Kaiser, Lifeguard, Principal Life, Guardian, Humana, United Healthcare, Standard of Oregon, Fortis, and UNUM.

Added Value

Goldeen Co. gives you the added value of my detailed analysis and expert knowledge of the insurance market. I show you all aspects of a benefit plan, including what the insurance companies would rather you didn't notice. This gives you the basis to make an informed decision. I also serve as an advocate in dealing with any problems you may have with insurance companies. In addition, I give you guidance in complying with the complex government regulations that apply to group coverage.

Personal Approach

Goldeen Co. sees each customer as a unique case. I have found in working with small and often growing companies that no two are alike. I focus on the specific employee benefit plan needs of your company and provide solutions custom-tailored to satisfy those needs. I know my customers as individuals, not just faces in the crowd.

Types of Group Coverage

Group Medical Plans. The current group medical plan market has HMOs, POSs, PPOs, EPOs, Dual Choice Plans, private insurance companies offering all types of plans, private insurance companies not offering HMOs, non-profit organizations offering all types of plans or HMOs only. Each type of plan comes in a variety of deductibles, copays, definitions of covered charges, quality, and price. I will guide you through the maze of plans to pick out what's best for your company.

Group Dental Plans. Dental plans are not as complicated as medical plans because they involve less money. Group dental plans work mostly as reimbursement plans. For groups under twenty that are not growing, a Section 105 plan can work better than a dental plan from an insurance company. (See below.)

Group Life Insurance. Group term life insurance is a simple product. "Non-discrimination" rules apply. Coverage is usually offered at a flat level for all employees, such as $25,000 per employee, or at a level based on pay, such as two or three times salary. An Accidental Death and Dismemberment supplemental benefit is usually included.

Group Long Term Disability Insurance. Group LTD supplements the state short term disability coverage which quits after two years, and Social Security disability which pays meager benefits if the claimant can qualify for it. LTD is a relatively inexpensive benefit that can be of great value when it is needed.

Pension and Profit Sharing Plans, 401(k) Plans. Goldeen Co. will show you the range of retirement plans available, taking into account loading, administration costs, service, investments, and government requirements.

IRC Section 125 Flex Plans (Cafeteria Plans). I can help you put together a Section 125 plan which allows for tax savings to employees. Because of the administrative complexity of these plans, they aren't usually practical for groups under fifty.

Premium-Only Plans. When employees contribute a signifant portion of their insurance premiums, premium-only plans save tax dollars by allowing the contribution to be deducted from income before tax. Goldeen Co. can help your company set up such a plan.

IRC Section 105 Medical/Dental/Vision Expense Reimbursement Plans. Section 105 plans are not well known, but they can be a boon for companies under twenty employees that are not planning rapid growth. Section 105 plans are uninsured reimbursement plans. For example, a dental expense reimbursement plan could be set up to reimburse employees up to $500 per year for dental expenses. No premiums are paid to any insurance company. The reimbursements paid to the employees are tax deductible to the employer and are not counted as income to the employee. These plans often cost the employer much less than conventional insured plans. Goldeen Co. has the expertise to design such plans for your company. The federal regulations get complicated when COBRA continuation is involved, so I don't recommend 105 plans for companies over twenty employees.

My Strategy for Constructing an Employee Benefits Package

In putting together a benefits package, Goldeen Co. follows a series of steps to give you the best service possible.

Gather Information. In a face-to-face meeting, I find out everything I need to make an accurate proposal, such as size of company, potential for growth, type of employee, purpose of benefit plan, and personal preferences.

Send Out for Proposals. Based on your needs, I request proposals from a range of insurers in order to give you several suitable plan choices.

Analyze Plans. Using painstaking methods, I analyze all the plans carefully in order to put them into a form where they can be compared apples to apples. When insurers present their plans, they highlight strengths and hide weaknesses. Our analysis attempts to put all plans on an equal footing so that you can compare them accurately.

Make Presentation. My presentations are well focused and cover a lot of ground. I leave you with a binder containing all the information presented so that you have something to refer to when you are reviewing the plans later.

Guide Application. Once you have made your decision, I guide you through the application process, aiding in getting forms filled out correctly so that all goes smoothly.

Help with Enrollment. After the plan is in place, I will happily assist you with enrollment of new employees. I can also explain plan details to employees.

Assist in Government Compliance. Group insurance exists in a quagmire of government regulations. I provide you with a compliance manual and give you any additional assistance you may need. I provide updates as the laws change.

Continued Service. I am always available to help you with any problems or questions you have. (See Contact Information.) I work as your advocate with the insurers.

Renewals and Reviews. When your renewal approaches, I make a review of your plan to determine if it still fits your company or if changes are necessary.

Additional Products. I keep you informed of new and additional products that may benefit you.
